"Aus der Forschung - Für die Praxis": From Research - For Practice

The benefits of diverse mixtures in grassland management have been investigated in a number of large, often interdisciplinary research projects. However, the results of these projects have not yet been adequately transferred to the practice. Thus, farmers cannot use this knowledge gain. In this project, we want to change this. We focus on two topics: Biodiversity in grasslands as production factors, both today and in the future, and Grassland management under drought.

Objectives

  1. To compare the results of biodiversity projects which took place in grasslands of different management intensities (Jena Experiment, external pageCOST Action 852, external pageMultiSward, external pageAnimalChange, external pageLegumePlus) in terms of yield, profitability and resource use, and to provide the results to stakeholders. Biodiversity will thus not only be looked upon for nature conservation, but as a real production factor.
  2. To synthesize the results of various drought experiments carried out in Switzerland (NCCR Climate, Imexclime, Carbo-Extreme, external pageIDP Bridges), and to provide the results to stakeholders. These experiments could thus serve to raise awareness early on, before consequences of climate change become more severe.
  3. To identify adequate communication pathways how to strengthen and to maintain a stakeholder dialogue between research and practice, supported by an advisory group. The products from objectives 1 and 2 will be tested and optimized for hands-on use.
