SUPER-G: Developing SUstainable PERmanent Grassland systems and policies
Motivation
The existence and management of permanent grasslands is key to the delivery of multiple ecosystem services across Europe. However, permanent grasslands' maintenance and functions are under threat from sub-optimal management of inputs, cultivation in higher output farming systems and abandonment in remote and marginal areas.
Objective
The overall objective of the external pageSUPER-Gcall_made project (Developing SUstainable PERmanent Grassland systems and policies), financed by the EU under the H2020 program, is to co-develop sustainable permanent grassland systems and policies with farmers and policy makers that will be effective in optimising productivity, whilst supporting biodiversity and delivering a number of other ecosystem services. Project partners from 14 countries will cover grasslands in the Mediterranean, Atlantic, Continental, Alpine, Pannonian and Boreal regions.
Tasks
Our part of SUPER-G deals with two aspects, the synthesis of ecosystem services delivered by permanent grasslands (WP2) and the assessment of greenhouse gas fluxes, in particular to test legumes in mixtures as a management tool to mitigate N2O emissions (WP3).
