COST Action ES0804 ABBA

Timing
2009 - 2013

Context

ABBA was created with a view on the next generation of European comprehensive multi-species flux monitoring sites.

ABBA provides a strong and dedicated coordination platform where the planning, analysis and synthesis efforts of current flux monitoring sites can take place. ABBA will create standardised methods and protocols for

- Site location selection
- Flux measurement techniques
- Processing and storage of data.

Aim

The aim is to facilitate wider use of flux data by a more diverse community of researchers, operational forecasters, and environmental assessment organisations. ABBA is a pan-European network of land-atmosphere interaction scientists jointly working towards these goals. At European level, no other instrument exists which could support and promote the development of the outcomes of this Action.

Scientific Focus

The existing national and European flux monitoring communities work separately. Networking by ABBA creates added value and is invaluable to advance the continuity, scope and quality of flux monitoring. Scientifically, ABBA will answer the following questions:

What is the current state of the European flux monitoring sites?
What are the criteria for comprehensive flux monitoring sites?
Do the flux measurement sites cover the European ecosystems and represent regions?
Training, capacity building and dissemination.
